In addition to his role with BrandWell Partners, Matt is currently Chairman Emeritus of VML, the company he led as CEO for 14 years.  Through 2017, he also served as Vice Chairman, Strategic Projects for Young and Rubicam (Y&R), one of the world’s largest global advertising agencies.

Matt joined VML as its fourth partner in 1994. At the time, VML had one major client and fewer than 20 employees. He was appointed VML’s first CEO in 1999, and held that position through 2011. Matt and his core leadership team – most of who have worked at the agency for 15 years or longer – transformed VML into a digital marketing force, now with more than 2,500 employees worldwide.

Matt served as Chief Digital Officer of Young & Rubicam Group from 2011-2103. Later, 2013- 2015, he led the company as President and CEO, Y&R North America. He continues to serve on Y&R’s Executive Board and now supports the firm in a consulting capacity.  Additionally, Matt is a board member of the American Association of Advertising Agencies

Throughout his career, Matt has been a tireless supporter of philanthropic endeavors and community causes.  In memory of his brother Chris, who suffered from a Glioblastoma brain tumor and died in 2003 at the age of 37, Matt and his family established the Head for the Cure Foundation to raise awareness and funding for brain cancer research.  The highlights are the Head for the Cure 5k events, now in 20markets; proceeds of all Head for the Cure events support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC).

A native Nebraskan, Matt played intercollegiate soccer at Benedictine College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Communications.  Away from the office, Matt is an avid cyclist, while also spending time with his wife Ann and their three adult children.
